Hospital Bag Checklist
Finally I am back and writing my first post after I gave birth. This time I decided not to make a video and rather to put it in writing so you find it easier. I want to share what I actually needed from my hospital bag, because I was not different as you are now. I wanted to pack all my house, many clothes all baby clothes and so on. But when the big day came, I will tell you the truth, I didn’t need half of the stuff I packed. So here I am now sharing my experience with you so you could learn from my mistakes.
Bare in mind, that I gave birth in the birth centre and I had water birth. In my opinion it is very important to know what birth you are going to have so you can pack related items. From my own expereince, I knew I am not going to stay longer than 24 hours in the hospital so I packed just for one day. Also, if your hospital is far from your home I guess you would want to pack a bit extra if you have to travel long distance. My hospital was 15 minutes away so I didn’t worry that much as my husband could always go home and grab necessary things (although I didn’t need anything from home).
First things first, keep it simple all mommas to be. You are not going on a vacation it is birth, and I don’t think you would want to change your clothes and make up every few minutes would you? I had my robe I didn’t need it, I had two gowns needed only one, as I had my birth in water only thing I needed was the top. And that’s it. Everything else they have in the birth centre such as exercise ball, pillows, towels, music etc. So don’t worry about those as you won’t really care later what music is in the background, actually you will barely hear it.
The God sent items for me were water bottle I had, which was with straw so my husband could easily help me and give water whenever I needed, straw is a must ladies! Don’t forget snacks (loads of snacks). Another very useful things were briefs (looser ones) and ladies pants (see my video, link below). These were amazing I used them all month after the birth as well so they are good investment and less headache for you. P.S. you would get maternity pads in hospital so I would not worry about that much but it is still good to have yours just in case.
Things like toiletries, shower stuff was no no for me. First of all, because I could barely stand or walk I couldn’t take shower, so I had quick one (no hair washing or pampering that time, just pure shower water and I am out straight to bed). Shout out for moms who could enjoy shower, have their hair and make up done because I didn’t care about those things at all. But I had everything in my bag for it. Also, we were not allowed to use any chargers in the hospital so charge your phones and cameras all the time before the big day. Most important don’t forget your money or card (as my husband managed to do, and we had to ask our friends to buy us a coffee- bless them) because you will want that coffee and something to eat.
As for the baby you don’t need much at all. We needed only one outfit, few nappies, water wipes and a car seat. That’s it. Them little adorable angels don’t ask much in the first day just sleep.
